Setter

All the two-light solutions belong to a theme. But to make things a bit trickier, their clues are in the wrong order and contain no definition. It appears 10A can be two words, one word or hyphenated.

Thanks Lamppost ... some chewy stuff in there, but not quite as tricky as the special instructions suggested. Favourites 8a, 22a, 15d, 18d & 21d. Spoilers ...

I had a similar experience to Fez, working through the single clues first until I had enough crossers to get a foothold — then the rest of the themers fell almost instantly without reading the clues! I did go back and back-parse everything but it made for an odd solve… The mixing of clues to make it tougher didn’t really come off for me, as the problem with some sets of theme words is guessability (if that’s a word) and solving clues without enumeration and crossers is surprisingly hard! …
