Cryptic crossword No 1,096

Great stuff, Maya! Lots of thematic elements and some nice clues; my favourites included 11a, 20a, 27a, 30a and 2d. Would be nice to have the annotated solutions if possible because there were one or two solutions I couldn’t fully parse.
