Thanks for the entertainment. First one in (FOI) was 4d. Nexr I put in 23d (I have this habit of trying to fill in symmetrical slots. Thus I went on. Many clues have good surfaces. I especially liked the use of 'cows in 1a.
Thanks Salix - well done on producing this crossword. In my opinion the most successful clues are 9A, 3D, 6D, 16D, 24D, as they combine nice surfaces with sound cryptic grammar. I also, personally, enjoyed 25A. I’m less fond of 15D, though I might be missing something there...
I enjoyed this. Not too taxing, but with a lot of clues that prompted a reaction of "That was clever!" after I solved them. I'm sure it's me, but I don't understand 22a and I can't parse 3d. Particularly liked 5d and 20d. (My reasons for liking 28a were predictable and unworthy).
I liked a lot of these clues and found it pitched around the right level for me. Particularly liked 10A, 18A,25A, 3D, 4D, 17D and 18D; 14A made me smile when I finally cracked it. The only one I wasn't too keen on was 15D which felt like it could have been more cryptic.
An enjoyable solve, at the difficulty level I prefer when solo-solving! Some nice ones, 14a and the definition for 5d pleased me in particular. I have a couple of comments/queries about ones I couldn't parse which I'll put in a reply to avoid spoilers.
