Nice! Lots of great stuff in here. Nice surfaces of course but especially liked 13d, 21a, 2d. Banged my head for an embarrassing length of time mis-homophoning 19a. For me the best moment was the penny-drop on parsing 8d, briefly grousing that the clue is unfair and then laughing out loud to realize that in this puzzle it's not! If I have a complaint it's that I asked before solving if this has normal vocab; with 7 fills not in online chambers, this grid is at least half-Painstaker...
One heck of a workout, but one well worth it! The big ticks went to 13a, 21a, 26a (naturally), 2d, 4d, 15d (probably my fave?), 19d & 27d, though it was good stuff all round. I would agree that the puzzle might merit the vocab warning Painstakers usually get, with its mix of uncommon answers and some unusual wordplay components (e.g. as much as I loved 13a's homophone...), but everything I needed was in my Chambers app. Still, it was a Potoroo - I guessed what I was getting myself into!
Hugely ambitious, and there are some lovely clues here. 24a possibly my favourite, along with 15d. And 27d was lovely, but too clever for me with all the other complications to handle. And the rubric made often tricky parsings and obscure vocab to the limit. Very much a DNF for me - both check and reveal were well used.
