I think you have a mistake in 7d (or is it a clever joke?), which is unfortunate because it’s a neat clue otherwise.

Very cleverly done. 24a, 5d and 15d were too subtle for me - thank you for the explanations. I wonder whether the expressions in 7d (which I didn't guess correctly) and 8d (which I did) are sufficiently established for the solver to be able to be confident that, having understood the idea, s/he has got the right answer. Don't know how I've survived without knowing 23a... Particularly liked 1d - and that isn't a comment on the puzzle as a whole!

Thanks Quince! There’s some great stuff here! I particularly admire 9a, 12a, 13a, 3d, 5d and 17d. I also admire 24a and 15d, though I needed help with those two. I’m not totally familiar with the specific phrases that are the answers for 7d and 8d.
