Excellent, thanks Umpire. Top picks were 9a, 13a, 17a, 25a (great surface), 26a, and 4d. My only reveal was 16d and I failed to parse 7d and 19d. Not bad for me!

Some clever stuff here Umpire, some a bit beyond me. I struggled with some in the SE quadrant, needing a couple of reveals to make progress. I particularly admired 10a, 13a, 18a, 1d, 4d, 5d, 7d among others. The annotated solutions explained what I’d been missing, so on the whole seems fair. One minor quiblet in reply, spoilers…

Many of your tricks on show and it took me half a dozen clues before I got onto your wavelength, after which is was a very satisfactory solve with those first few falling once revisited.
