Thanks for the puzzle! I found this a smooth and relaxing diversion. I thought the surfaces chirpy throughout and liked 4A, 13A, 15A, 22A and 14D, with 18D certainly the clue of the puzzle. Some quibbles in the reply, if that's useful to you.

Bit of a mixed bag for me Gumboot. Some clues quite satisfying in the ‘aha’ they create, some others giving cause for a fair bit of head-scratching, but might just be me not quite tuned in. I particularly enjoyed 10a, 13a, 22a, 5d, 7d, 18d & 23d. Mallimack has given a pretty thorough analysis so I’ll not add to that at this stage. Thanks for the challenge.

Very late to pick up on this but I solved it so I should add a comment, even though I suspect you'll have stopped looking for them. I enjoyed the puzzle; probably positioned part way between Mallimack and OzP in terms of how challenging I found it. A few wavelength misses and a few glitches as Mallimack has observed but it all pretty much feel into the right places. 4a, 15a, 1d (does need a QM for 'mullet'), 6d, 14d and 18d were my faves. Thanks. PM
