Cryptic crossword No 1,906

Thanks Fudgeller, nice to have another from you so soon. Lots to like here, with some clever cluing and good wit. I particularly appreciated 1a, 9a, 12a, 16a, 24a, 27a, 2d, 4d, 14d, 26d among others. A few NHOs (11a, 20a, 7d, 15d) but in the main the wordplay was clear enough to solve anyway. A couple of discussion points in reply, spoilers…
