Cryptic crossword No 2,121

Enjoyed the solve although I failed with 27a and needed to reveal the first letter for 9d. One or two clues fell into place via pattern recognition which was handy because I had no idea about the laws in one instance but I was well aware of the ‘old man’ in 22a in another. I am accustomed to your puzzles in another setting so I expected to be rewarded with a fine display of clueing and I was not disappointed.
