Cryptic crossword No 2,174

I should explain... This crossword was compiled, under the expert editorship of Flashman, from a group of TimesforTheTimes contributors, each of whom was allocated an answer to clue. Apart from assisting in creating the initial grid, I merely acted as a conduit to publishing the crossword here (well it had to be someone with an account here that did that).... and only one of the clues is mine. Thanks to all for a fun crossword and to Flashman for herding the cats to make it happen!
