Cryptic crossword No 2,281

A bit of a mixed bag for me, lots to like but I found some of your wordplay very convoluted. A few more thoughts in reply

Thanks Grebo and welcome to MyCrossword. If this is your first crossword you've done well. I particularly liked 13a, 16a, and 21d. In general your surfaces are good, one of the hardest aspects of writing clues. More comments in reply.

Squidward??! That apart (I assumed that "affect" for "effect" in 24a was a typo, and while I think "on" in 2d is redundant it didn't bother me) I enjoyed this a lot, particularly 21a, 1d, 22d and especially 23a which I thought was really neat.

Thanks for the fun puzzle, Grebo. There are some lovely ideas here, and you clearly have a good eye/ear for interesting surfaces/wordplay. My favourite clues are 18a, 6d and 21d. Thanks Grebo, great puzzle. I found it a tough challenge and I was defeated by 23a. I liked 11a, 16a, 10d. 15d, 19d and 22d. I agree with some of the quibbles others have raised but I like innovative clueing. So don't let the Cryptic Grammar Police grind you down. Keep pushing the boat out!
