As the good folks on Cryptic Sunday have pointed out, 6d is ambiguous. Another lesson learnt in crossword setting!

Thanks Cheeseman, I enjoyed this on the stream. Witty clues and definitions everywhere with favourites being 9a, 25a for the LOL surface, 1d for the very inventive def and 18D which is lovely. Spoilers...

Thanks Cheeseman, that was an enjoyable breakfast solve. I particularly appreciated 7a, 8a, 24a, 4d, 6d, 18d among others. Due to current timezone, I’ve not watched Cryptic Sunday, so I daresay there was detailed feedback there for you. I did solve some that I struggled to fully parse in retrospect, so turning on annotated solutions would be helpful. But really enjoyed the wit in many of the clues so thanks again!

Thanks for all the comments. I'm going to stand by the clue for 11d. "Formal tail" for "last letter of the word formal" seems clear and unambiguous. In the real world, we have "city centre" for "centre of the city". I'm not sure how that works grammatically; it's nearly sixty years since I studied English grammar. I don't think they teach it at all these days.

Hi Cheeseman. I’ve missed a couple of yours and enjoyed watching much of this being solved on Cryptic Sunday. Faves Inc 9a, 22a, 27a, 3d, 18d and 23d. Thanks. PM

That was fun, loved the many oblique definitions, I think 25a and 18d were my favourites among many that made me smile
