Cryptic crossword No 2,357

Welcome Hoodwink! I don't think you need to be unduly apologetic, as this seems to me a pretty decent debut puzzle. And with a theme to boot! I appreciated 7a, 14a, 22a, 26a, 1d, 2d, 5d, 21d among others. I thought there were a very few rough edges, which I'll explain in the 'reply' below to avoid spoilers for other solvers. Welcome, belatedly, Hoodwink and congratulations on your debut. As OzP says, no need to apologise. This shows plenty of good ideas and, whilst yes there are some rough edges, that's hardly surprising in a first puzzle. 26a, 8d, 16d were my podium. Thanks. PM
