Special Instructions: Hi all - as strongly hinted in one of the clues, this is my first attempt at constructing a cryptic (or indeed any) crossword. Feedback welcome as even to me it looks rough (going for a different grid might have helped!) Please note that 6a should be (5,8), thanks to Kateh for spotting that.

Pretty cool debut! I solved it but without following all your logic. Of those I did get via wordplay, 10a was my fave, very cool! Others i liked a lot include 6a, 13a, 20a & 2d (satisfying when it all clicked together), 3d, 7d, 14d (neat!) and 18d (FOI) . A couple of spoilery things in reply...

Welcome and very well done, JI. There are some flaws, for sure, but that's not the point for now. There's originality, wit and quirkiness that I really enjoyed. A great debut! Faves: 8a lovely, 10a made me smile, though I'm not sure the def really is one (forgiven in this case 😀), 13a, 3d, 6d, 12d. Advice on certain points may come another day, but this is a really promising first effort, no question. Bravo!
