Thanks Tangerine, that was really great fun. I love this sort of puzzle, and you've worked in the theme very nicely - despite seeming impenetrable at first (as they always do!) actually fairly accessible for the most part. Faves include 5a, 11a, 28a, 4d, 7d, 17d & 22d. Spoilers ...

That was a blast! Aside from the hidden extras, there were some very neat and left field definitions: 1a, 5a, 28a, 3d were my faves. Spoilerish remarks below

Wow! a themer at several levels. If you enjoy setting thematic cryptic crosswords you may like to collaborate in a project I am working on for setters and solvers. Contact me via gmail.com my user name is darby.higgs

Couldn't complete it but enjoyed the challenge! thank you.

I'm quite late to this, Tangerine. SI normally give me the willies - it doesn't help that I solve electronically without pen and paper so keeping track of superfluous letters is tricky. But I am glad I gave it a go - a neat idea, well executed. 8a, 19a, 28a, 2d, 3d, 15d and 17d my picks. Thanks. PM
