Cryptic crossword No 2,595

Thanks Tim! I took my time funding your wavelength with those long clues and got held up a bit in the East (more on that below) but then it came together in a very entertaining way. Favourites were 12a, 15a, 5d (my COTD), and 16d. Spoilery stuff below...

8a threw me as it's not a single 15 letter word but two words, so would be clearer clued as 7, 8. 2d I think is clued as a plural when the answer is singular, and then that made it hard to parse 10a, although the answer couldn't have been anything else. I think the reference to 2d also makes 'supply' redundant, whereas just using 'Alternative energy supply', where supply is an anagram indicator, might work better. Very fixable and I'm new to this so I may be wrong. A very fun solve. Thanks Tim!
