Special Instructions: Seven across clues indicate both parts of a single entity. The definition indicates one part, and the wordplay indicates the other part. In each case, only one word should be entered into the grid, and the other word should be omitted. (Part of one across entry itself consists of two words - one of these should also be omitted.) The first letters of all the omitted words, grouped according to their type and rearranged, produce the answers at 16 and 17a. (All down clues are normal.)

Thanks Spuggy, very much enjoyed. Faves 11a, 27a, 20d & 21d, plus the way 17a & 16a came together. A fair few 'technical' quibbles tbh (eg 22a's "blokey leader", 2d's "adulterous ... to"?, 4d's "wrapped", etc) with some loose grammar and stretchy synonyms ... but nothing to hinder solving, and great fun thematically. One very pedantic thematic quibble follows ...

Great stuff Spuggy! A fab idea for a theme, and very well executed too. My interest was caught on seeing the SI and it didn't disappoint!
