Thanks Ottsel, I enjoyed this. Favourite clues were 15a, 23a for the definition (!), 21d and 23d. Spoilers in reply...

Hi Cormac & Meles; thank you very much for your kind comments and good spots on the errors! I suppose that's why professionals have editors - nevertheless, I've updated the two dodgy clues.

Thanks @Ottsel, much to enjoy and admire here. I was particularly impressed with 10a, 13a, 4d, 5d, 14d & 23d. A couple of references a bit specialised cf my knowledge base, but then it’s a way to learn something new…
