Cryptic crossword No 3,350

Happy weekend all, welcome to my latest puzzle. Many thanks to everyone who's commented on my previous attempts - particularly Sisyphus - all feedback is appreciated, and I hope I'm showing improvement. Keen to see what you make of this. Hope you enjoy, and happy solving!

Nice one Cricket- definitely on the right path! I don’t have time for detailed feedback but lots of good clues, with 18a and 2d outstanding. Hopefully you’ll get some more support from others.

Not too bad Cricket! I liked 5a, 9a, 27a, 2d (especially the definition!), 3d and 11d. Comments etc in reply...

Hi Cricket, I think this is the first of yours I've completed and I can see good signs of things to come. I liked 5a, 20a, 3d and 11d which are all concisely constructed and yet still have good surface imagery. In some of the longer clues you end up with unwanted extra words (of, on, the etc) to make the surface work but the key is to make them also fit the cryptic reading. Cheers!
