I still don't understand 15d after reading the solution, perhaps a phrase I'm unfamiliar with, but a nice gentle solve for a Friday evening, with an interesting theme, thanks

Wow Cricket, best yet I’d say! Nice theme, well worked in with the cross-references, and generally good tight clueing with some great surfaces. My picks: 1a, 14a, 24a, 6d, 15d, 22d, 23d, 26d. Just two queries…
