Cryptic crossword No 3,590

Very enjoyable. My favourites were 1a, 5a,23a, 3d, 12d and 22d. Spoilers in the comments.

Fun and light with some nice twists; I second 22d and 12d as standouts, but my favourite was 25a - smooth definition. Didn't get confetti though, because I spelt 17a with an a, not an e, especially thrown by the call out to American (I understand a is more common in America?)
