Cryptic crossword No 40

This is my second crossword. I hope you enjoy. I would love to hear your comments about clues you like and those which you think may be unsound.

Thanks Madcap, that was quite a challenge. 1a, 22a and the leather jackets in 24a were all unknown to me but I managed to get there with the help of google. 16d defeated me, but having revealed the answer it made sense. I think 14d should be (3,6)...

Very good, Madcap, thanks for that, liked the theme (I did one some years ago with a similar idea, maybe I'll post it some time...). Although the long one (2d etc.) wasn't too hard I like the wordplay. Some I'm not sure: 26a the 'triple def.' doesn't quite, I think. (contd.)

Some lovely stuff here - liked 17A, 25A, 27A, 1D, 6D. The surface of 10A was very neat. I couldn't parse 16A, 16D or 19D, and as has been said, 5D has a lot of surplus words. 8D is controversial - some accept "in sect" = insect (I wasn't troubled by it), some people argue it's unfair. The strength of the clue for 14D is shown by the fact that it was a clear solve even though labelled as (9) rather than (3, 6). And I thought the double definition in 26A was clever.
