Cryptic crossword No 565

Welcome to MyC, BlueJay, and thanks for the puzzle! I found it fun all over, if a little tricky in places, particularly liking 9a, 12a (hilarious - my fave clue), 19a (neat), 22a (clean), 27a, 1d (clever construction), 4d (misleadingly simple) and 18d. There are a few queries I have with some clues but I am perhaps misparsing things and it would be great if you could include annotations. Good job!

Hi there, BlueJay. I'm sorry to have taken a while to get around to this. It appears to be your debut here - though this doesn't look like a first attempt! I'm glad I did it - lots of imagination and some really cunning tricks employed. Favourites - amongst many contenders: 10a, 18a, 22a, 26a (COTD), 29a, 1d, 6d, 8d, 16d, 18d. I'd agree with sirdakka: Annotations would be useful for the one or two I couldn't parse (23d?). Well worth doing. Many thanks. PM
