Thanks Vasi, that was a nice puzzle. Not too hard, but had a few clues that really got me thinking, as well as some answers that had me reaching for google for confirmation (e.g. 20d and 27a, both of which were new words for me). Favourite clues were 19a, 23a, 2d, 3d and 11d. SPOILERS in reply...

Thanks Vasi, enjoyed that. Liked 3d, 23a and 19a, as well as the succinct cluing. Struggled for a while with the SE corner, as it contains two uncommon words and I wasn't convinced about the answer to 22d - isn't it really the same meaning?

Thanks Vasi - lots of fun clues. A few I couldn’t parse which have been explained in the comments. Favourites were 1a, 5a (an underused word!) and 3d. Thanks again for sharing this.

Setter

In Everyman 3886/4 April, there is the clue 24a Unexpectedly encounter ram (3,4). I thought the two definitions here are rather close to each other. I also thought 22d in this puzzle is similar. I thought there was a little misdirection in my clue and that was enough. In the Everyman clue too the setter probably thought the solver might momentarily toy with meaning 'adult male sheep', Not all DDs that I write will be like this but occasionally the regular requirement may be ignored.
