Cryptic crossword No 669

Thanks for the puzzle Chill! Quite a challenge and while not overly familiar with all aspects of the theme, appreciated the surfaces (particularly 11a,15a, 13a/21a, 25a and 16a) and the impressive gridfill. Well done!

Well, I surprised myself by how much I knew about a particular subject there! Quite a steady solve all in all. Excellent working of the theme. Favourites: 10a, 17a, 25a (fantastic image). Would like to see annotated solutions to check a couple of parsings if possible. A quick query in Reply. Great work, very enjoyable puzzle 👍

Thanks Chill, another enjoyable puzzle with a fun theme - 1a I needed a bit of Google help but the rest of the theme was surprisingly accessible, as Henri mentions. That was a favourite alongside 9a, 10a, 17a, 25a, 2d (v funny surface), 3d, 8d (I think you have a typo there though, repeated "left"?), 14d, 20d and 23d. Impressive restraint in 6d/19a, going with the "body parts" but then switching to "turn up" ;-) Spoilers ...

Thanks Chill for an enjoyable puzzle that I managed in spite of limited theme knowledge - which is a good sign of fairness in the clues. Particular favourites were 10a, 17a, 25a (nicely done with the definition), 2d, 3d and 27d.
