Thanks HumanTeapot (great name!), this was enjoyable. I had the same overall feeling about some padding in the clues but in spite of this everything is impressively concise, doubly so for your first attempt. Favourite clues were 7a, 2d (nice spot), 6d, 18d and 20d.
