Cryptic crossword No 709

Hi McKay - lots of great definitions here (6d, 14a, 19a) and good wordplay throughout. I think there's an error with the enumeration on 7a/18d, but otherwise this was a good workout - thanks

Hi McKay. Did this yesterday but didn't have a chance to comment. As the others have said, excellent puzzle with some cracking clues. 7a/18d did fox me for a long while with its enumeration issue, but that's a great spot for the fodder. Liked 13a, 14a, 27a, 5d. A shame about the overlap between 22's clue and 23's answer. One query - 17a? "Oddly lacking" seems to remove the answer rather than leave it behind. What am I missing?

Thanks for this McKay. Some very nice clues in here including 7a/18d (nice spot), 9a (nice image), 14a (super def), 27a (good surface), 6d (another nice def; I don't have the GK to know how appropriate is the surface but suspect it's very), 16d (nice allusion). Spoiler in Reply. Thanks. PM
