Thank you for an interesting and challenging puzzle. Favourites were 5a, 15a, 2d (very neat), 8d16d and (once I had it explained) 24d. There are a few (spoilers in reply) which I don't think quite work, but that didn't spoil my enjoyment of the puzzle.
