That was enjoyable. With a couple of them, I think you struck the balance absolutely right, having somewhat obscure answers but very clear wordplay. A few spoilerly comments in reply.

Lots of lovely, clever stuff in here, particularly 1a (very smooth), 9a (amusing surface), 10a (neat), 18a (neat), 25a (clean), 26a (fun), 30a (smooth), 31a (fun surface), 2d (neat, though "beachfront" will divide opinion (I like it though)), 3d (smooth), 6d (neat), 8d (a little long perhaps, but smooth, gettable and nicely assembled regardless), 13d (neat), 20d (clean), 21d (clean) and the lovely 27d to finish...
