This puzzle, while (hopefully) fun and well-made, is deliberately untested, aside from some help and feedback from my daughter. Hoping to do a 'community test solve' with probably every clue being rewritten along the way. Therefore, productive harshness is encouraged. Thanks for playing!

My favourite here is definitely 7a! Like 5a and 3d as well. Productive harshness incoming...

Thanks tpgrammar, good fun with faves 5a & 7a. I can't resist an invite for productive harshness, so spoilers follow ...

Thanks tpgrammar. Fun puzzle – thought-provoking too! 4d my fav homophone, although I don't know if the capital adds much to the surface reading. 7a works nicely too. I've been mouthing the solution to 6a and somehow it doesn't feel right – I don't think I've ever come across (or heard) a single word "spoonerised" in that way.

OK. I had fun, and hi to your daughter! Some picking of nits in replies, which I'm doing without looking at anyone else's.

Record-keeping note: ended up revising 5 of 8 clues, for better and/or worse (grateful to all commenters) and also had an interesting experience trying to diagram 7a traditionally vs. cryptically --> https://www.tiny.cc/TwoGrammars (would like to do more of these w/ some favorite clues I've collected)
