Each in the series will focus on a handful of clue types -- this first one focuses on hiddens, anagrams, and DDs, which I consider the most accessible. These make up most of the clues. Obviously, this is intended for complete beginners around 15 years old, so the vocabulary is accessible and some of the clues make no attempt to disguise their device at all, to ensure some early success. Despite being only 20 clues, the constraints made this really hard to construct!

Feedback and suggestions are very welcome, it'll be a few days before the students attempt this so there is time for amendments

This is brilliant! 16a! I thoroughly enjoyed all of this and it feels pitched perfectly as well as demonstrating the fun and humour of cryptic clues. 5a 1d I’d say. More in reply…

Yes, this hits the sweet spot very well for a beginner group. It’s got a good variety of clues, many of which will likely tickle the teenage sensibilities (as if I’d know these days…). As Fez says, by no means a pushover so some will also give the deferred pleasure of a late crack. Well done - let us know how it goes down with them! A few spoilery queries in reply.
