Quick crossword No 390

Hello emaherself! Thankyou for this (gorgeous picture as well - I love irises). I liked 1a, 12a, 14a especially because it's clean and concise, 19 when I finally tumbled to it, plus 6d and 16d. Couple more comments to come in a reply, in case of visible spoilers...

Thanks emaherself, good fun. My overall favourite, as for Gumboot, was 19a and other faves were 20a, 2d (I thought the synonym used was tough but fair!), 4d, 11d. Spoilers …

Hi emaherself. Thanks for this, I enjoyed it. My personal favourite was 19a - I'm sure I'd just have clued it with a boring bordello anagram, which has been done a million times before. My least favourite was 5d: the reference to O'Boy is very obscure and as such it really stands out; whereas ideally I think a hidden word should lurk in a way that the solver's eye passes over it without it drawing attention to itself.
