Cryptic crossword No 1,148

Some of you know that I enjoy a clue-writing contest. It seems a shame not to reuse some of those clues so this puzzle contains 10 of my clues from DIYCOW weekly contests over the last 6 months or so.

Lovely stuff Coot, as it to be expected. Defeated by 14a so annotations would be good if you have them. Love 26a, 27a, 3d, 9d, 15d (competition winner?) 18d, 19d. Spoiler.

Thanks Coot, an enjoyable and speedy solve, undoubtedly helped by recognising some old favourites! 14a was new to me, but neatly enought clued that I could work it (and have a guess at the British equivalent). Favourites were 13a, 9d, and 21d, but I could have happily picked others.

Thanks for the puzzle Coot, a brilliant idea for a puzzle and being unacquainted with the select 10, got to enjoy them all in the wild so to speak, making for a very satisfying solve. 1a starts of with a cute surface and wp, and I also particularly liked 11a (smooth), 13a (intricate), 26a (neat), 27a (fun), 28a (smooth), 2d (smooth), 3d (fun), 5d (very nice), 9d (lovely assembly), 15d (great fun, very clever), 18d (very smooth), 21d (very neat) and 25d (smooth) - top stuff!

Nice one Coot, which I enjoyed watching on cryptic sunday. 6a very amusing. I have lost track of whether it was your alternative or the original but, either way, I like the version I saw solved. My other big like was at the other end of the grid with 29a. 15d prob my COTD - and prob a good job someone else has to solve it rather than me! Thanks. PM
