That was an enjoyable solve. I've got ticks for 5a, 13a, 25a, 7d and 17d. One small quibble for 2d - I thought this clue didn't have a clear definition and almost felt like it had two lots of wordplay instead YMMV. Anyway, it's a minor objection in a lovely puzzle. Oh and it's reminded me that I must get around to learning how to 26a some 10a! Thanks Coot.

Thanks Coot, that was fun. Ticks for 5a, 19d, and (the wonderfully wicked) 2d. You're one vowel short of a themed Nina across the middle, too!

Thanks Coot for a very enjoyable puzzle. I liked 28a (the word appears a lot but surface here is great), 17d and 19d. 1d was my favourite because of the precision in the clue. Nice work with the thematic entries too!

Lovely puzzle, Coot. Particular pleasers were 5a, 14a and 1a. I liked how you risked going below the waist with 17d and 28a. I had never heard of 29a before but cross-letters helped me solve it. (I’ve even looked up the recipe - looks delicious and easy to make! Will give it a go one day.) Stand-out clue for me was 18a - brilliant!

Lovely stuff. I wasn’t familiar with the second meaning in 15d. Getting by my reckoning 11 themed words is pretty impressive. Favourites were 5a (so simple, so precise), 18a, 25a, 28a, 29a, 31a, 9d.

Thanks for this puzzle Coot. Good fun and some very clever stuff. I was baffled by 2d but think the clue very clever now I’ve seen your notes. 29a was a new word for me. Particularly liked 1d and 20d. Have you read The Miller’s Tale? Theme related in a very loose way and in it a 18a who could be described as ‘love-struck’ receives a kind of 28a in the end…
