Thanks Coot for a brisk and enjoyable solve. Not entirely clear about 8d but 9a, 23a and 28a were particular favourites.

Thanks Coot - I got quite stuck at the end having made a hash of 3d, but worked it out in the end. Lots of fun. 27a my clear favourite, with 28a, 6d, and 8d.

Thanks Coot, that was great fun. I guessed a bit here and there but most of this was straightforward for me. My top picks were 1a, 9a, 26a (liked "puts one in"), 17d, and 20d. Good crossword.

I definitely struggled in the NW corner although I laughed when 1a revealed itself in all its punniness (is that a word?). Took me a while to work out that kidnapped didn't equal "intimidated" in 15d before the penny dropped. Other favourites were 17d, 20d and 25d.

Some fun clues in here, Coot. I liked 14a, 16a, 23a, 27a, 2d, 6d, 7d, 15d and 20d. Spoilers in Reply. Thanks. PM

Great fun! 1a an early contender for COTY! Also liked 9a, 22a (only parsed it with your notes but 👏) and 13d. Beaten by 21d though. Spoiler in reply. Thanks!

Sorry to be late to the fray, but glad I turned up Coot! Some absolute belters here, led by the best Spoonerism I think I've seen (1a) and with a plethora of great clues. 22a and 8d stood out for me too along with 16a, 20d, 24d. A few eyebrow raising moments I won't mention as others have raised them already, but none to really detract from the overall quality

Returning the compliment for your helpful comments on my latest one, thank you Coot for an enjoyable solve. Favourites 1a (nothing like a groan/chortle on the very first clue to get you going nicely), 9a, 18a (nice image of Lineker on MotD), 7d, 20d. I needed to have 8d explained to me, but unlike some of my exercises in being too clever by half I think it works.

Catching up on a few… 1a is so wonderful, both the laugh and the way it works at the surface level. Took forever for 2d to click. A very good example of the device. 9a got a good groan when I finally parsed it. My other top favourites were 26a 5d and 8a. Cheers!
