Cryptic crossword No 1,614

Thanks Dave. I enjoyed this. I found the left side a good bit easier that the right and there were bits I couldn't parse due to a lack of GK. Favourites were 19a, 20a, 22a, 3d, 14d, 17d, and 21d. Spoiler in reply.

Hi Dave, I saw this being solved on cryptic Sunday. Some lovely clues in here, though I personally found it quite hard (but I’m a bad solver!) my highlights were the very good spots at 1d and 7d, as well as 5d and 19a. Spoilers:

Thanks for this Dave. It's quite a way above my paygrade so I gave up after a while and read through the notes. Lots of very ingenious clues. I particularly liked 9a, 19a, 20a (very good), 1d (although anagrind is slightly marginal for my taste, it was clear what was required) and 5d.
