Cryptic crossword No 1,852

Enjoyed this from Mexico, where I don't have to stay up late to enjoy some schadenfreude. Some spoilers in the reply!

Very elegant, very smart. Undefined clues give me the habdabs but 4a (and the date, of course) screamed out to me early on and that theme helped enormously, so this all went pretty briskly as I waited impatiently to see 26d get the hook. 14a was especially brilliant. Many thanks. Super-slick fun.

Very nice, thank you. Got 4a very early on, and worked out the theme soon after, so that helped. Held up by 30a for a while, for no good reason. Favourites 4a, 10a, 27a, 28a for the bizarre surface, 7d, 20d, 23d...

Great stuff Henri, thanks. Took me a while to properly get into this, but one I had the first of the undefined solutions it became much easier. Leaving them undefined probably a good call! Favourites: 12a, 14a, 17a, 7d, 8d and 23d.

Late to this, but great fun - thanks Henri. Special Instructions don't always float my boat, but here I really enjoyed spotting what was happening then hunting down the undefined entries like truffles.
