Cryptic crossword No 1,920

This is the first Cryptic I've ever set, so feedback would be greatly encouraged and appreciated. Any clues a bit unfair? Any syntax / punctuation that could use editing? I'm quite proud of some of the clues here (14d, 23d and 15a especially).

Hello there. I must say this is quite a nice puzzle. I did particularly like the small bits of theming (which I won’t spoil). Apart from a few quibbles, this was a very nice puzzle to solve

Welcome Layton, and thanks for a mighty fine debut! I don't try every debut puzzle but I was intrigued by some of your interesting surfaces, and found much to like here, and some nicely offbeat indicator words to boot. Favourites: 15a, 1d, 2d, 13d and 23d. I did see some minor technical quibbles, the likes of which I think we all experienced in our early puzzles, and I hope you don't mind if I put some detailed clue commentary in the reply ->

Also welcome Layton, and I’ll agree that this is an excellent debut puzzle! I particularly appreciated 10a, 11a, 15a, 19a, 5d, 6d, 20d among others. Shane and Henri have both given helpful feedback, to which I don’t feel the need to add anything at this point. Just welcome again and I look forward to seeing your next offerings!

Welcome Layton! This was a hundred times better than my Dunning-Kruger-esque first efforts. My favourites were 11a, 15a, 24a, 25a, 2d, 5d, 16d...

Very enjoyable puzzle and, if it truly your first, you've done a super job. All went in in order apart from 9d which required a revisit and which didn't *quite* work for me. As Henri observed, there are some cute *alternative* indicators of which 2d is the nicest example. Lots of good ideas and plenty of solid execution. A few extraneous words - other commenters have picked up on most issues. Faves inc 10a, 11a, 15a, 26a, 2d (COTD), 3d, 7d, 16d and 23d (also COTD!) Thanks. PM
