Cheers Baldur, I have to concur with the emerging consensus - a lovely puzzle. Just the right level of difficulty for me, a satisfying grid and mix of devices. Favourites include 4a (fun surface, neat construction), 9a (creative), 10a (clean), 24a (neat), 27a (clean), 2d (satisfying), 4d (smooth), 7d (I liked the def, creative I thought :D) and 25d (nice).

We're all piling in, Baldur, with much the same comments. I have just finished cluing one so had time to solve this one, if a day or so late. I fully agree that this is a fine set of surfaces - much improved. And I had relatively few queries, most of them already picked up by others. Faves here inc 1a, 18a, 21a, 24a (though see reply), 2d (COTD), 5d (I take Genera's point but it worked for me), 8d and 19d. Thanks. PM
