That was fun Gollum, thanks, with plenty of ingenious constructions. I rattled through about half of it before becoming rather stuck, which reflects on my mediocre solving abilities but also, I think, the fact that 12 of the clues have >50% unchecked letters. I do like a subtractive anagram and you certainly didn’t disappoint! Some would raise a niggle about the lack of a 2nd anagrind for the part you are subtracting (but I forgive you!). Favourites: 8A, 27A, 5D, 19D and 23D. Spoilers in reply.

Nice one Gollum, very accomplished! Some novel approaches to clues, like 12a, and nice touches, like risky in 28a. As Coot says, I like the subtractive anagrams. I think the definition is a bit of a stretch at 1d.

Nice work, Gollum, this was fun to solve. Favourite was 18d, also ticks for 10a, 27a and 23d. Your reworked version of 1d is nicely playful. I'm not so keen on the trick you've used in 28a, but that's a personal taste thing. Spoilers in reply...

Really enjoyable and some 'Doh' moments. Loved the ingenuity of COLT and the snigger-worthiness of BRINE. Also very clever construction of HOI POLLOI. Wasn't sure about having three clues in a row with perhaps, maybe and possibly, nor having one with part of the answer in plain sight in the clue. Too enjoyables many to mention, but a very likeable crossword. (I won't repeat the other comments - esp about 1D. I wouldn't have got that if I had the rest of the year. :-) )
