Cryptic crossword No 290

Thanks Haven. Too difficult for me with some quite obscure references, given my GK anyway, and stretched definitions. But some reveals and a look through the annotated solutions have explained everything. Lots of clever ideas in here, my favourite clues being 11A, 28A, 29A and 9D (very neat),

Nice gentle theme @Haven, helps with cross-referenced clues. Particularly liked 13a, 27a, 29a, 4d, 9d. Iffy ones for me were 14a, 16a, 24a, 8d, 21d, 22d. Note the typo in 20d. As @Coot comments, some of the definitions are stretchy or very obscure, but overall an enjoyable solve.
