Couple of minor spoilers in reply...

Thanks Newington. Lovely surfaces, some quite beguiling. Standouts: 9a, 10a, 11a, 13a, 24a, 3d, 8d among others. Very helpful elaborations in the annotated solution set. Some stretching wordplay and synonyms - I learnt a couple of new things but one or two I'll query in reply (SPOILER ALERT)

Loads of really inventive and succinct clueing, Newington, thanks. I ground to a bit of sticky halt (resorting to a few reveals) after a while but I put that down to my lack of ability to decipher some quite tricky wordplay more than anything else, although I tend to agree with Ozpiper on the stretchiness of some synonyms! I particularly liked: 9A, 24A (great find), 25A, 5D and 14D.

Some lovely clues in this. Thought 9a 13a 22a and 24a excellent.
