Setter

Very grateful for the constructive and very sound advice of a very, very patient test solver! Thank you.

Nice work, Guava. I particularly liked 15a for its misleading surface, 18a for its creative def, 26a for its oddness, 28a and 7d for their clever defs and 3d for the well-disguised-but-obvious-once-you-see-it wordplay device. And of course any setter has to take their hat off for 12,4,14 etc.

Very enjoyable, Guava. Though I am still recovering from the brain twist that was 26a and then you hit me later with 12a etc. Have pity! I'm another who enjoyed 18a (needed crossers). a couple of others that brought a smile: 17a, 5d and 2d. *d cheeky but fun. Well done. PM

Great to see another one from you Guava, and most enjoyable too. I must admit to Googling quotes from Lear to get a massive leg up! Impressive invention and variety of devices on show. Particularly liked 1A, 15A, 18A, 5D (recent PM clue helped me out here), and 23D.

Lovely stuff Guava, lots of ticks with double ticks for 15A, 18A, 28A, 29A, and chapeau for the long quote, which despite my limited knowledge of the subject is surely quite &littish? I particularly enjoyed the various nods to the subject throughout many of the clues. Well done!

Blimey! This one proved rather tricky in places but very enjoyable throughout. I enjoyed 17a, 8d and 23d. In general I'm not a fan of very long tedious anagrams, but well done for putting that together! Kudos!

Haha, that was great fun Guava, 26a the LOI leaving me with a big smile on my face. Tons of ingenuity and great variety of clueing, it proved a bit tricky for my limited solving ability in places but everything was fair, just outfoxed me a few times! I particularly enjoyed 1a (nice entry to the puzzle), 13a (thought particularly neat clueing), 15a (over my head initially, but clever and well worked into surface), 17a (a lovely, smooth example of that method), 21a (nice DD), 25a (I liked your..

Very nice, Guava. I found this quite tricky in places, but got there in the end. Most satisfying. Favourites were 1a, 15a, 25a, 28a, 2d, 3d. And hats off to you for the long anagram - very Araucaria-esque!

Hello Guava, I really enjoyed this puzzle, some really clever and inventive clues. Aside from the great anagram, I really liked 11a, 18a, 25a, 29a (great surface), 8d (lovely reference), 16d and 20d (nice definition). Interesting use of primes.

Hi Guava, it was difficult, but I appreciated the creative clues, esp. 26A and 3D. 17A had a superb surface.

I'm not a fan of really long anagrams but that's just me. However there's lots to like here. 15a was clever. 18a made me smile. It took me far too long to get the dismiss in 21a. 26a was a gem. 3d because although I've seen primes before it's sill an unusual wordplay (and good to see you miss 1 correctly). 7d for 'turn dry'. Others as well. Great effort.

Thanks Guava. Very nice. As others have suggested, 15a is a classy clue. 21a another highlight. I did something similar to 26a once in Rookie's Corner and was crucified for it — so while I like this one it's probably an acquired taste. 28a is neat. 8d is a nice CD (I think 'as' is superfluous though, harming the surface too). 12d etc is sooo clever, although I don't think I'd have got it without guessing the last word from crossers and flicking through KL. Lots of good clues.
