Cryptic crossword No 2,222

For once, I had not solved this before CS streamed it so I joined in and enjoyed it. 9a, 16a, 25a, 1d, 5d, 7d and 20d my favourites. Some nice smooth surfaces in there, very approachable and good use of your theme. Thanks. PM

Thanks Coot. I found this on the difficult end of your spectrum, particularly the NE corner. I revealed 5d, 7d, and 8d. Nonetheless I thought this was an excellent, themed crossword. My top picks were 9a, 10a (COTD #1), 22a (COTD #2), 25a, 31a, 17d, 19d, and 20d. Great job.

Wonderful crossword. Some great clues, I especially liked 10a, 22a, 25a, and 32d. Never knew that synonym for prison! Really enjoyed it, my favourite crossword on this site so far.
