I managed to finish this one! I got 1a straight away just on the first 2 words, being of an age (although it was a guess initially, then parsed). However, the theme eluded me, although I could see it in the end and sing it... Thanks for a fun puzzle, my favourite - 5a.

Nice. And now I know the name of said tune. That's neat how 2d worked out.
